human being a redneck

Here are my thoughts on a human being a redneck.

Would you rather be a redneck or a hillbilly ?

While some people take offense at being called by this slang term which is a common stereotypical way of describing a poor uneducated white boy from North America somewhere, others go great distances to gain the status of redneck. Sure, there are some modern rednecks who have more education than most intelligent upper or upper middle class people. Why is that ?  It is only because the system throws so much money at the hillbilly to get them educated so that they can become employed and responsible contributors to society at which point they can pay taxes that will go to paving the road to the rich kids doorstep and to his bank account.

Most rednecks I know are not that bent on their financial position in life and because of that they are much more pleasant to be around than others who would think nothing of pitchin' a lie all the way in order to get your last dollar. Sure the hillbilly does have a tendency to spit on your boot once in a while but that is usually is a sign of respect. The uninitiated usually catches on after the third or fourth time. It's about the same has understanding why native people do not usually look you in the eye when they speak to you. It has meaning to them and to do otherwise is against their spiritual principles.

Being a redneck means...

...Owning at least one used vehicle that can get you up the hill billy or down the hill billy. But careful since most redneck trucks do not have brakes. An automatic transmission is all that is required and it's first gear all the way down hill. Petal to the metal all the way up hill - dependent on whether or not there is metal left.

...owning at least one new vehicle. Now the rich boy owns great big new toys which he most likely got from lying through his perfect white teeth but the redneck does just fine with a diecast model of a new vehicle. Twenty bucks goes a long way to owning sometimes a couple of new cars. Hot Rods, vintage cars, hummers, you name it, after a while some hillbillies own entire fleets of new vehicles.

Getting to the store to buy them however can be a problem due to the lack of brakes on the old truck.

Seriously though...

Now there's gotta be more to being a redneck than just being a nice guy with a old truck.

Here's a bit more history on these unique people of North America.

Some people claim that the original rednecks were self determined freedom fighters from England who would have no more to do with the Church of England preferring instead to follow the Presbytarian church governance. As a show of allegiance the Covenanters as they called themselves began wearing red bandanas. This was in the 17th century and then Scottish immigrants to the US brought with them the customs.

Some folks might argue that beginning since the term redneck has broadened with the passage of time.

In the south of the US it was used to refer to Virginia slave laborers who's neck turned red from over exposure to the sun.

And those are just a few examples. Basically the term has always been used as an insult towards low income Caucasian who have a low level of education and who are often out of work.

But in reality the redneck is a hard working, honest, craftsman, usually skilled in mechanical tasks and able to hold down high paying trades jobs such has construction, logging, mechanical engineering, etc.

According to savetheredneck.com this person may be male or female or anyone willing and able to keep the wheels of the economy rolling by pulling his or her weight.

Proud to be a redneck is something to strive for.

Jokes about the Caucasian poor uneducated boy

People love to make redneck jokes.

Here a few samples...

You're a redneck if....

You think the last words to the Star Spangled Banner are "Gentlemen Start Your Engines".

You've been married three times and still have the same inlaws.

You think a stock tip is a stick to measure your hogs with.

You and your dog use the same tree to wee on.

You think dual air bags refer to your wife and mother in law.

I ain't making these up. I found them all at www.fortogden.com and the list is just so very long.

It seems everyone as it out  for the good ole hillbilly.

Most rednecks are good cooks...

They have to be since they can't afford restaurants.

What can be expected from someone who might think Taco Bell is a Mexican Telephone Company!!!

The preferred hillbilly recipes are simple.

For example an exotic drink recipe might go something like the following.

Most of all

Being a redneck is about having a sense of humour and seeing beyond the childish pranks and name calling gestures of others.

My Dad was a hog farmer, and when I was a kid I showed hogs in 4-H. My first date was at the Monster Truck Mash at the Fairgrounds, my favorite drink is Southern Comfort, and my brother drives one of the tallest trucks in town, and goes hunting in a Beverly Hillbilly Buggy he made with my Dad. Although I don't consider myself to be a redneck anymore, I admit I was raised as one and I have a special place in my heart for all of my friends and family who proudly call themselves rednecks.
